VISAKHAPATNAM: Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party leader K. Yerran Naidu has said that alternative proposals for the Sethusamudram project should be placed by inviting all political parties.
While people’s sentiments should be respected, they should not be used for political ends, he told reporters here on Friday.
He, however, did not commit himself to either ‘for’ or ‘against’ the demolition of ‘Ramasethu.’ He said only after the options kept before the parties were weighed could one come to a decision on it. He said his party had already condemned the affidavit filed by the government on the issue in the Supreme Court.
Criticising the Rajasekhara Reddy Government for “poor administration” and “alleged corruption,” he accused the MPs from the State of not working to promote the interests of the State.
For instance, the proposal for upgrading NIMS on the lines of AIIMS was not pursued though then Union Minister Sushma Swaraj laid the foundation stone to it.
Mr. Yerran Naidu charged the Congress with not being quality conscious in the execution of irrigation projects it had taken up. Though it cost money, the TDP Government had ensured quality and recovered crores of rupees from contractors after Technical Advisor Subbarami Reddy’s inspections, he recalled.
Ordering a probe into the issues raised by the former Vigilance Commissioner, R. Samal, was of no relevance after the Chief Minister gave a clean chit to his Cabinet colleagues and officials, he said.
MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, the former Minister, Gorantla Butchiah Chowdary, TDP (Urban) president C.M.A. Zaheer Ahmed, Bharnikana Rama Rao and M. Venkata Rao were present.
