HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party on Wednesday took its campaign on former Vigilance Commissioner R. C. Samal’s report on corruption to the Raj Bhavan by presenting a memorandum to the Governor N. D. Tiwari.
In the memorandum, TDP leaders -- T. Devender Goud, S. M. Laljan Basha, M. V. Mysoora Reddy and T. Seetharam -- complained to the Governor that Mr. Samal’s disclosure held a mirror to the rot that has set in under the present dispensation. “It will decay further under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy,” they warned.
They said far from taking action on Mr. Samal’s report, the Government was busy shielding the corrupt and mounting a personal attack on him. The honest officer detailed how various departments, including major irrigation, mining, municipal administration, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam urban development authorities have become “cesspools of corruption”.
Mr. Samal further disclosed that he had sufficient evidence about corruption indulged in by 160 more officers, they said and demanded summoning of the Legislature, to discuss the report besides “appropriate action” against the Government.
