Give importance to youth: Keshava Rao

HYDERABAD: Warning the party men against giving scope for complacency and overconfidence, former APCC president K. Keshava Rao wanted the party’s State leadership to give more importance to youth, women and weaker sections in the run up to the 2009 Assembly elections.

Though the party was on solid ground following the development work and massive projects undertaken up by the Government, issues like separate Telangana and categorisation of Scheduled Castes needed to be addressed, he said.

Dr. Keshav Rao was speaking to reporters after handing over charge to PCC vice-president G.S. Rao who was appointed in-charge president of the party.

Lists initiatives taken

The appointment comes in the light of the resignation tendered by Dr. Keshav Rao after his son Venkat Rao’s alleged involvement in a shooting incident.

Stating that the appointment of a full-fledged PCC chief would take some time, Dr. Keshav Rao outlined various measures he had initiated during his tenure such as construction of the District Congress Committee offices, which were in various stages of progress, and networking DCC offices with Gandhi Bhavan.

New building

“The site for the new Congress headquarters, Indira Bhavan, had been identified, but the party had decided to take up the works only after residents were satisfactorily rehabilitated,” he said.
