Seized timber, comprising 420 logs, valued at Rs 4 lakh

KURNOOL: The forest officials seized a large quantity of red sanders stocked in a red gram field near Siddanagattu in Bethamcharla mandal of Kurnool district on Monday.

The seized timber, comprising 420 logs and weighing eight tones, was valued at Rs 4 lakh.

According to reports, a lorry carrying the timber topped with sweet orange fruit unloaded the stock on the night of September 14.

Tip off

Sweet lime was stacked close to the road while the red sanders was dumped in a field.

The forest officials were tipped off when villagers took away unguarded baskets of sweet lime.

Forest Officials led by Range Officer Damodar Reddy seized the material and brought it to the head quarters here.

According to reports, the smugglers decided to abandon the stock for a few days to escape the attention of the flying squad of forest department.
