Police make thorough search of women’s college
Fire engine pressed into service as a precaution
ELURU: A bomb hoax caused flutter on the campus of St. Theressa’s College for Women at Gavaravaram in the city on Monday and put the police on tenterhooks.
A miscreant reportedly called up the college authorities over phone at about 10 am and informed that a bomb was planted inside the college campus.
In no time, a large posse of police, armed with dog squads and metal detectors, descended on the college in search of bomb.
The bomb disposal squads searched for the `hidden explosives’ in class rooms, administrative office and in every part of the college campus. At the end, for them, it proved to be a hoax call. A fire engine was pressed into service as a precautionary measure. In the mean time, the students were asked to leave their class rooms and sit in a sprawling college auditorium as a safety measure. Later, the college authorities declared a holiday. Eluru DSP V. Premkumar, who headed the police in detecting the bomb, said it was quite difficult to identify the miscreant as he made the call over a coin box.
