Chief Minister instead favours ground-level parking facility at the Secretariat

HYDERABAD: The slots meant for parking vehicles in the Secretariat are in for a change.

An earlier decision to construct an underground parking facility on the left side of the main-gate of the Secretariat facing Hussainsagar has been deferred on the grounds that any underground parking will suffer seepage problem.

At a meeting held on Thursday on the underground parking proposed as part of the Secretariat master plan, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy asked officials to convert the space at the main-gate close to the helipad into a ground-level parking facility instead.

Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy wanted to free the space between the “H” block and the helipad from all forms of vehicles and provide another parking space by shifting the building of the school located on the west of the helipad to any other place.

He directed Roads & Buildings officials to redesign all the parking spaces, including the one at “J” block, by laying footpaths.
