TIRUPATI: In an attempt to spur literary activism with the larger aim of restoring social values, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has effected a 50 p.c. hike in the aid given to authors of religious and spiritual books.

Under its ‘Financial Aid to Authors Scheme’, the TTD has been supporting the authors by providing Rs.20000 per book towards the publication charges for a maximum of two books in one’s lifetime. Apart from hiking the aid to Rs.30000, the cap has also been pushed up to accommodate four books.

Apart from publishing literary works on its own through its state-of-the-art press, the TTD’s Publications wing extends support to scholars who ill-afford to publish books on their own, in order to bring such commendable works to light.

A team of scholars and linguists monitors the works, scrupulously screens the eligible ones and recommends them for aid. Noted scholars like Jandhyala Papayya Sastri, N.Ramakris-

hnamacharyulu, C.Narayana Reddy and Salaaka Raghunatha Sarma had been part of the screening committee.

Since the inception of the aid in 1975, the TTD has spent Rs.25 crore so far towards supporting as many as 15000 religious publications, in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi some of which have even won national level awards.
