The Government issued show cause notice to Mayor Mallika Begum asking her to explain why the resolution passed by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) should not be cancelled. The Government’s move came in the wake of unanimously passed resolution that the people living on Karakatta and Budameru should not be evacuated. The State Government’s move is laudable. The Municipal Commissioner Natarajan Gulzar should take steps to evacuate all those living on riverbeds and canal berms to protect the environment.

Ditched by the ruling party

The ruling Congress party has once again ditched the people by adopting double standards in Vijayawada city. On one hand, the Congress party had favoured a resolution that people living on Krishna Karakatta and Budameru should not be evacuated. On the other hand, it maintained silence though the Government issued G.O. 638, which empowers the Municipal Commissioner to enumerate all people living on Karakatta etc. G. Satyam

Mismanagement

Koneru Lakshmaiah College of Engineering, one of the reputed engineering colleges in our State, is located about 12 km from the city. The college management provides transportation facilities to its students by charging a fee of Rs. 6,000 per annum. But, the students more particularly girl students face hardships as the buses are overcrowded. Having increased the charges from Rs.5,000 to Rs. 6,000, is it not the duty of the management to provide a seat for every student? In fact, no student should be allowed to stand.

Needs quality improvement

Vijayakrishna Super Bazar with its many branches in the city and surrounding areas has been supplying quality commodities at competitive price for the last 25 years. Unfortunately, the quality of its service is coming down for the last few months.

Even though there are many high tech super malls and many more are coming up, people still prefer Vijayakrishna Super Bazar. Hence, the staff’s attitude must change and the entire staff of a branch must be made responsible for the overall development of the branch, with the promise of a good incentive for them if they get profits. Otherwise, it will be very difficult for it to sustain.
