VIZIANAGARAM: Chairman of A.P. State SC/ST Commission M. Nagarjuna has said that discrimination against SCs/STs is still in practice in some pockets and the benefits are not reaching them. The conditions in welfare hostels had not improved. The commission would try to rectify the problems, he said.
At a press conference here on Sunday, Dr. Nagarjuna said the Commission had information that some people with bogus caste certificates got appointments in government departments and he had instructed Collectors to initiate action against such employees.
He instructed the district administration to follow the roaster system for promotions to SCs/STs. Further, he asked the police to register cases under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act whenever complaints of discrimination, harassment etc were received. At the same time, he appealed to SCs and STs to desist from lodging false complaints and maintain sanctity of the Act. The Commission would not hesitate to take action against such false complainants, he said. On gang-rape of 11 tribal women in Visakhapatnam Agency, he said that the commission member G. Sandhya Rani had already visited the village and the Commission would act only after receiving report from her.
