HYDERABAD : Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy on Saturday invited suggestions from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and its ten rebel MLAs, over issues that were framed to determine if they were liable for disqualification as members of the Assembly for proposing an independent candidate for election to the Legislative Council against the party whip.

Today’s meeting of Mr. Reddy with the petitioner G. Vijayarama Rao, TRS floor leader in the Assembly, and rebel MLAs was part of the ongoing consultations he had initiated a few months ago. Mr. Reddy sought to know from both sides if they were satisfied with the issues that were supposed to be probed to arrive at a conclusion on the petition.

The petitioner’s counsel Ramakrishna Reddy reportedly pressed for the disqualification of the MLAs, as they admitted to proposing the candidature of Kasani Gyaneshwar by ignoring the party whip. On the other hand, the rebels sought that their appeal to try the TRS leadership for defaming them also be considered. Mr. Vijayarama Rao told reporters after the sitting that the TRS had committed itself to the Speaker to produce evidence of election of the rebels on party ticket at the next hearing. The MLAs, however, contested the claim that the TRS was an unrecognised party when they were elected on its behalf.
