HYDERABAD: A third standard student Sai, 9, drowned in Hasmathpet tank after stepping in it for a swim along with two of his classmates soon after the Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday in his school at Chilakalaguda.
Sai, along with two other boys who are believed to be his classmates and yet to be identified, was seen swimming in the tank in the afternoon, said Alwal police station Inspector Krishna Reddy on Thursday.
Passersby rushed to rescue the three boys as they suddenly slipped into deep waters and started shouting for help. Sai’s family members and locals staged a demonstration in front of the school on Thursday holding the management responsible for the boy’s death.
The demonstration was called off after the school management reportedly assured to extend financial assistance to the boy’s family on humanitarian grounds, the Alwal police said.
