Kakinada: The reporting of fresh cases of polio in and around Kakinada has shocked the administration and the agencies involved in elimination of the disease.
While the first case was of a boy of migrant Orissa labourers, reported from Samalkot after a lapse of eight years in February last, the second was of a girl of local residents, reported from Gadimoga area near Thallarevu a week back.
The third and the latest is the case of Vadamodalu Raju (5), son of a fisherman in Parlaopet area of Kakinada, reported a couple of days ago. The boy was found to be infected by the virus after he was admitted in the hospital for treatment of vomiting and diarrhoea. His stool sample analysed at a laboratory in Chennai has confirmed the case. Surprisingly, the boy has been immunised by the polio drops for the past five years.
A team of medical experts has visited the fisherman locality on Thursday and examined the boy.
