HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday passed orders withdrawing the directions of Director-General of Police M.A. Basith regarding goods vehicles involved in accidents.

Earlier, vehicles involved in accidents had cases booked under Sections 337 and 304-A of Indian Penal Code, but while the drivers concerned were produced in a court of law, the vehicles were released at the police stations itself, under security.

The Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners’ Association had represented to the Government that this action of the police was causing hardship and leading to huge losses.

The DGP’s move came as a hard-hitting blow to lorry owners in cases where they were required to produce security equivalent to the value of the vehicles involved in accidents if they were registered outside the State.
