HYDERABAD: Ranga Reddy district unit of the Telugu Desam Party will launch an agitation to get house sites, each measuring at least 70 square yards, for lakhs of poor. It will include a four-day ‘padayatra’ covering 73 km across the district.
At a district unit meeting at NTR Memorial Trust Bhavan here on Tuesday, Medchal MLA and TDP’s Deputy Floor Leader in the Assembly T. Devender Goud said the first phase of the struggle would be held from August 9 to 13. The demands included stopping of land auctions by Government.
He said senior district leaders, including president P. Mahender Reddy and MLAs G. Sayanna (Secunderabad Cantonment) and K. Hareeshwar Reddy (Parigi), Manchireddy Kishan Reddy, Narra Ravi Kumar and P. Srinivasulu Naidu would participate. Filled-in forms from the poor without a house site would be collected. The forms would then be handed over to the Mandal Revenue Officer concerned following which the party would mount pressure on Government.
It would cover surrounding municipalities and each day would end with the leaders making a night halt and eating and sleeping in the midst of the poor. This was meant to convey the seriousness of the problems faced by the underprivileged lakhs of people who were now in the State Capital where they were forced to migrate.
Later, Mr. Goud said that a review would be held after the first phase of the programme and the road map for the future prepared.
He said that depending upon the success of the agitation in Ranga Reddy district, it would be replicated in other districts.
