VHR meets Raghavulu and asks him to call off stir

Government lacks commitment, says Raghavulu

VHR told to convince Government to respond positively to demands

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has reiterated its resolve to continue with the land struggle till the Government concedes the demands raised by the Left parties.

CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu is learnt to have made this clear to Congress Member of Parliament V. Hanumantha Rao who called on him here on Monday. As announced earlier,

Mr. Hanumantha Rao met Mr. Raghavulu and reportedly asked him to call off the agitation as the Government was promptly responding to the demands of the Left parties.

Being friends of the Congress at the Centre, the Left parties were, in fact, drifting away from the understanding at the State level, Mr. Rao is understood to have said.

Mr. Raghavulu, however, pointed out that the Left parties were agitating for distribution of land and house sites to the poor.

But the Government was trying to suppress the movement by using police force despite claims from Congress leaders that the Left parties continued to be their friends.

Alleging that the Government lacked commitment to implement its own promises on land and house site distribution, he told Mr. Hanumantha Rao to convince the State Government to respond positively to the demands put forward by the party.
