NIZAMABAD: District Congress Committee president Gadugu Gangadhar has ridiculed Telugu Desam Party leaders’ demand for resignation of Minister for Higher Education D. Srinivas over the issue of payment of arrears to sugarcane farmers coming under the purview of Nizamabad Cooperative Sugar Factory.
Referring to the TDP agitation in front of the NCSF at Sarangapur yesterday, he said the party had no moral right to talk about the interests of sugarcane farmers as it was that party which tried to privatise the factory during its regime. They have been agitating over the payment of arrears only to divert the people’s attention, he said.
In fact, the Government had sanctioned an amount of Rs.7.10 crore to clear the arrears to cane farmers just a week ago and the GO relating to it was released on July 23. The Minister made it public a couple of days ago through the media, he added.
The Government sanctioned an amount of Rs.53.74 crore through Andhra Pradesh Cooperative Bank to pay the arrears to the farmers under 11 sugar factories in the State, he said and accused the TDP leaders of politicising the issue even if they were aware of the developments.
