South Central Railway Secunderabad Division launches ‘cleanliness drive’
HYDERABAD: As part of a cleanliness drive, the Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway will shortly introduce mechanised cleaning of coaches on a large-scale, including de-infestation at Secunderabad Coaching Depot through a turnkey contract for five years at a cost of Rs. 7.2 crore.
With 2007-08 being observed as ‘Cleanliness year’, a special campaign has been launched to ensure cleanliness and hygiene in trains, station premises, waiting rooms and other places.
The measures taken up by the division include development of infrastructure, provision of plants and equipments, use of mechanised cleaning through specialised agencies and awarding garbage disposal, pest and rodent control contracts.
According to a SCR press release, mechanised cleaning was introduced at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kazipet, Warangal, Khammam and all MMTS stations. Other important stations will also be covered this year.
The station masters of all 134 stations on the division have been given special powers to purchase items for cleaning and upkeep of stations.
