Project Officer of the UCD of the zone concerned to be in charge of maintenance

HYDERABAD: Beggars’ rehabilitation may finally happen with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner deciding to establish at least one such rehabilitation centre for each zone either in its own building or at rented premises.

Commissioner and Special Officer C.V.S.K. Sarma on Monday directed Zonal Commissioners to identify buildings and set up the rehabilitation centres by the weekend! For each centre, one Project Officer of the Urban Community Development (UCD) of the zone concerned would be in charge for maintaining it.

The official will also be responsible for selecting and engaging a non-governmental organisation to look after the rehabilitation including food, amenities, besides motivating them for coming into mainstream.

Dr. C.V.S.K. Sarma stated that in two months, four sweeping machines will be pressed into service along with 20 bobcats to improve sanitation in the twin cities. Tenders had already been finalised.

Additional labour would be engaged to clear garbage spill-over near the dumper bins on a trial basis.

With the Chief Minister giving permission for the improving the Autonagar dump site and converting garbage into compost, the way has been cleared for setting up the Bhavani Bio-Organics plant.

Similarly, a firm from the shortlisted 14 will be selected for capping, converting garbage into compost and develop a scientific landfill at Jawaharnagar dump site.

These proposals are all to come through in the next one month.
