HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday announced special cells and task force units for every district to check violence against women and children.

Reviewing the functioning of Women Development and Child Welfare Department here on Monday, Dr. Reddy directed officials to continuously monitor missing cases of children, child abuse complaints, dowry harassment (with all implications) and women trafficking.

Expressing anguish over increasing violence against them, he said those special cells must consist not only police officials but also members representing NGOs and social workers and function under the district collectors.

Dr. Reddy directed the officials to bestow necessary powers on the priests performing marriages.
