VIJAYAWADA: The hunt to select the best music band by Saregama India in Andhra Pradesh ended at Vijayawada on an encouraging note with around a dozen enthusiastic bands from Krishna, Guntur and Khammam districts unleashed their musical prowess in the presence of P.A. Deepak, India’s leading sound engineer, who was awarded the ‘best recording engineer award for his Hindi film ‘Paheli’. Incidentally, Mr. Deepak will act as a judge in all the next four auditions to be held at Rajahmundry, Vizag, Hyderabad ad Tirupathi.

The Automobile Technicians’ Association Hall wore a festive look with posters of A. R Rahman splashed everywhere, announcing the launch of “7 Up Ooh lalala”, the music band programme to be aired by Gemini TV. The hall reverberated with a wide range of tunes churned out by the orchestras and what impressed Mr. Deepak was the original compositions performed by some troupes.

“It is nice to see young artistes coming out with original compositions. What we looking forward is new sounds and new voices,” he added.

True talent

Cream Door, Nature Dreams and Madhurima were some of the band showcased their talent. A thrilled young singer Mallik said that such programmes not only provided a great platform for youngsters but also helped the artistes to bring out true talent to the fore.

Sanjeev K. Kumar of Saregama India felt that the incessant rains since last two days prevented many bands from taking part in the audition. “Many bands contacted us expressing their inability. But we have asked them take part in the audition to be held at Rajahmundry on June 26 at Sri Venkateswara Anam Hall.”

Mr. Kumar said that 18 bands would be selected from AP for the final selections to be held at Chennai under the supervision of music maestro A. R. Rahman.
