The new facility will be able to accommodate about 1,000 people at a time

HYDERABAD: Yet another mega attraction on the Necklace Road, on the shores of the Hussainsagar will be opened here on Sunday, giving more recreation choice to tourists and week-end revellers in the city.

Jalavihar, a family entertainment park, sanctioned by the Tourism Department and developed in the public private partnership mode in 12.5-acre area with focus on water sports for kids and adults, will boast of the country's biggest wave pool.

The wave pool is a type of swimming pool where large waves are artificially generated providing an experience more similar to swimming in the ocean.

The wave pool at Jalavihar spread over in 18,000 sft can accommodate about 1,000 people at a time, says a representative of Jalavihar Entertainment Private Ltd. Trial runs were on for the last two months, he added.

The going for the water park had not been easy with environmentalists fearing that the park would damage the lake's ecology and pollute it and the project ran into legal hurdles.

Work commenced after the project was finally cleared by the Supreme Court and the company complied with all the stipulations of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board.

The built up area comprised only 10 per cent of the total area of the park and grills and nets were provided along the lake park to prevent littering around the lake, says Financial Advisor, V.S.S.Srinivas.

The park has two zones - entertainment and party zone. While the entertainment zone has water sports, wave pool, dry rides, mini train and food courts, the party zone will have open lawns which can accommodate 2,000 people and will be ideal for product launches etc, cottages (not for overnight stay) and a wooden deck for small groups.

The Rs.22-crore water park funded by an NRI, R.J.Rao, and a group of individuals was given on 33-year lease to the company by the Tourism Department, which would get annual rent of Rs.34 lakhs and 5 per cent of gross receipts to the park to be revised once in five years.

In the second phase to be taken up in six months, a health and convention centre would come up on the lake park's premises.
