Seer appeals to people to comprehend the saint poet's compositions and enrich their lives

TALLAPAKA (KADAPA DT.): Tallapaka Annamacharya, who authored 32,000 `keerthanas' in the praise of Lord Venkateswara, preached oneness of human beings 600 years ago, Kanchi Kamakoti Peetadhipathi Sri Jayendra Saraswathi said on Thursday.

Speaking at a meeting in Tallapaka ZP High School on the inaugural day of the three-day Annamacharya's 600th jayanthi celebrations, the seer exhorted people to comprehend the essence in Annamacharya's `keerthanas' and enrich their lives.

Annamacharya was an ardent devotee of the Lord of the Seven Hills.`People of Andhra Pradesh are a blessed lot as they have Sri Venkateswara Swamy atop Tirumala and Sri Raghavendra Swamy Math at Ahobilam', Sri Sushmeendra Theertha Swami of Raghavendra Swami Math, Mantralayam said. The people lacked mental peace and yielded to human weaknesses. Devotion and spiritualism would bring peace in their lives, he said. Sri Suyatheendra Theertha Swami of Raghavendra Swami Math called for steps to safeguard Hindu religion.

Lord Venkateswara was praised by singers in Sanskrit and Tamil until Annamacharya wrote 32,000 keerthanas in Telugu, Sri Tridandi Srinivasa Vrathadhar Narayana Ramanuja Jeeyar Swami of Hyderabad said.Annamacharya belonged to Ahobila Math and his preachings that all human beings are one should be to practised to eliminate casteism, Sri Soundarajan said while reading the message sent by Sri Karyam Prathinidhi of Ahobila Math, Chennai.

Safeguarding the legacy

TTD Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy said his goal was to safeguard the spiritual legacy and check injustice to the majority religion.

Sri Venkateswara Swami's utsav idols were being taken to Dalitawadas to practice Annamacharya's preaching that all humans were one, he said.
