HYDERABAD: Medak Member of Parliament A. Narendra has said that separate Telangana would have been a reality when the TRS was part of the UPA Government but for the actions of the party president K. Chandrasekhar Rao as Union Labour Minister.
Mr. Narendra said at a news conference here on Saturday that UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was so vexed with the irregularities committed by Mr. Rao in the Labour Ministry that she decided to drop the issue of Statehood to Telangana.
He reeled out several omissions and commissions of Mr. Rao, one of which pertained to the appointment of the latter's Delhi-based friend, Mehrotra, as a Director on the board of Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). Mr. Narendra ruled out returning to the TRS fold in the light of Mr. Rao's remarks that it was not the end of the road for the former in the party as he was only placed under suspension. The suspension was illegal as it was not subjected to a probe by the disciplinary committee of the party as required by its constitution. In fact, Mr. Rao made a mockery of the constitution by not appointing any of the committees named in it. Mr. Rao's election itself as TRS president was questionable in the absence of the committees, he said.
Mr. Narendra said he would draw the EC's attention to the non-implementation of the party constitution.
