VISAKHAPATNAM: Ebony Ship Management Private Limited organised a seminar on behalf of the Honk Kong-based Fleet Management Limited (FML) for seafarers here on Friday. The FML is part of Noble Group, which is listed in the Singapore Stock Exchange.
Giving a brief on the operation of FML, S. Rangnekar, General Manager (India operations), said that the company was established in 1994 with two ships and within a span of a decade the fleet had gone beyond 160 ships, with an assorted range comprising bulk carriers, tankers, commercial cargo vessels and containers. He informed that the company operated the fleet from offices at Hong Kong, London, Singapore and Mumbai.
FML had also started a manning office in Visakhapatnam some time ago and this catered to the manpower requirement of the company.
On the manning operation, K.V.S. Syam Sundar, Local Head, said the company had roped in over 170 officers from the city within a span of one year.
Vishal Sharma, in-charge of FML's training institute, gave an insight of the companies HR policies and training facilities. He informed that the company had in-house training and up-gradation facilities for its officers and crew and the facilities included engine and ship handling simulators. According to Mr. Rangnekar, the company had over 6,000 employees with over 250 trained officers both on shore and on board and contributed over 1.5 million USD to the country's exchequer. He noted that the city had made huge contribution to the seafarer's community.
