That will pressure Centre to stall Babli: BJP

HYDERABAD: The BJP has demanded the resignation of Central Ministers from Telangana to step up pressure on the Union Government to stall the Babli project.

Addressing a news conference here on Monday, national executive member of BJP, S.V. Seshagiri Rao, and others said the resignation by Ministers alone would turn the focus of the Centre on the gravity of the problem facing Telangana on account of the project.

The Centre had to bow under similar circumstances when Ministers in the Cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru, including former President, R. Venkataraman, resigned following a decision to impose Hindi as compulsory language all over the country, Mr. Rao said. He also said the inflows into Sriramsagar reservoir would dwindle from 100 to 20 tmcft when Babli project was completed. The situation would render the 340 km Kakatiya canal useless. The project was taken up in defiance of a pact between the State and Maharashtra in 1975 that the latter would not use more than 60 tmcft.
