ONGOLE: Superintendent of Police Vineet Brijlal has warned CD shops and cable operators that stringent action will be taken against them if they indulge in selling or transmitting obscene or pirated cassettes.

In a press statement here on Wednesday, he said that 14 persons were arrested and 2,712 cassettes or disks were seized during police raids on CD shops in the district during last one week. He said that the raids would continue. He asked the CD shops to register themselves and get licence for their business from District Collector or face action.

He said that CD shops and cable operators doing business without licence would be liable for imprisonment from three months to three years under Andhra Pradesh Exhibition of Films on Television Screen through Video Cassette Recorder (Regulation) Act, 1993. Also, selling or transmission of pirated films in violation of Copyright Act would be punishable with imprisonment and penalty.
