Governor, YSR extend Ugadi greetings

HYDERABAD: Governor Rameshwar Thakur and Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy have extended their greetings to the people of the State on the occasion of Ugadi.

In a message, Mr. Thakur conveyed his greetings to Telugus in Andhra Pradesh and hoped that the New Year `Sarvajit' would usher in peace, prosperity, harmony and happiness to everyone.

Dr. Reddy while greeting Telugus in the country and abroad wished that there would be prosperity and peace in each family during the New Year. - Special Correspondent

Bharat Nirmaan campaign

HYDERABAD: The Press Information Bureau will conduct the fifth Bharat Nirmaan Public Information Campaign (PIC) at Hindupur, in Anantapur district, from March 22 to 26.

M.V.V.S. Murthy, Deputy Director-General (Media and Communication), told a press conference here on Sunday that the campaign, was the fifth to be taken up in the State after Nalgonda, Vuyyuru, Kamareddy and Wyra (Khammam district).

Withdrawal of G.O. 35 sought

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Teachers' Union has sought the intervention of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in withdrawal of G.O. 35, which bans appointment of lecturers in aided colleges.

In a statement issued here, K. Narasimha Reddy, and A. Lakshman, president and general secretary respectively, said aided colleges in the State were facing a crisis because of the ban and non-filling of vacant posts. - Special Correspondent

World Water Day celebrations

HYDERABAD: The Centre for Water Resources is observing World Water Day at the UGC Academic Staff College, JNTU, Kukatpally on March 22.

The United Nations declared `Coping with water scarcity' as the theme for the World Water Day.

The celebrations will begin at 10 a.m. and will comprise of expert lectures, release of campaign materials etc.

Minister's plea to cane growers

HYDERABAD: Major Industries and Sugar Minister J. Geeta Reddy has asked cane growers to observe patience in disposal of sugarcane as the Government issued orders to all sugar factories for crushing left over cane.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Minister said following a meeting convened by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, sugar factories across the State had been asked to crush the cane for which agreements had been made. - Special Correspondent

Inter exam: five officials suspended

HYDERABAD: Five officials involved in the conduct of Intermediate examinations were suspended from service holding them responsible for malpractice in Government Junior College, Hayathnagar on March 15.

Regional Inspection Officer (RIO) of Ranga Reddy district P. Mohan Reddy was removed from his examination duties. According to a statement issued by R.P. Sisodia, Secretary, Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) an enquiry revealed that five officials including the Chief Superintendent were found responsible and were suspended. - Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI: The Chairperson of National Commission on Safayi Karmacharis, Santhosh Chaudhary has said that orders would be issued soon to ensure that Sulabh and other private sanitary contractors paid the minimum wage of Rs. 3,100 each to all the public health workers working under them in TTD buildings and installations at Tirumala and Tirupati.
