Cites plethora of alleged land scams
ADILABAD: State president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Bandaru Dattatreya on Thursday termed the Government as a State of realtors. He cited a plethora of alleged land scams that had come to light, to buttress his charge at a press conference here.
Citing the Nadargul land instance, Mr. Dattatreya said the land in question is an evacuee property which the Rajasekhara Reddy Government failed to protect.
He said the Government could not even protect the interest of farmers who tilled the land. It supported elements who forcibly encroached upon lands, he added.
Continuing in the same vein, he said the Chief Minister's relatives indulged in largescale encroachments giving the Government the colour of real estate dealers. Because of land interests, the Government has given a go-by to welfare programmes, he added.
On a visit to Adilabad in connection with the Council election, the BJP president severely criticised the Government terming it anti-farmer and anti-tribal.
He said in order to pressurise the Government to accord minimum support price for sugarcane and turmeric, the BJP would organise a `Chalo Assembly' on March 26.
The Government has failed to implement the Land Transfer Regulations in tribal areas to remove encroachments from lakhs of acres of tribal land, he said.
