`Students here are diligent and need financial aid'

  • Universities offering PG courses to students with ordinary degrees
  • Good score in degree course fetches them scholarships abroad

VIJAYAWADA: A vibrant educational hub in the coastal region, the city has become a natural choice for foreign universities to come hunting for meritorious students. Of late, more and more representatives from abroad pay visits to local campuses scouting for talent and merit.

Universities in the US are no exception to this fast developing trend to tap cream among students locally.

    Real strength

Guilherme F.C. Albieri, associate director of international admissions, Hawai`I Pacific University, US, says that students from the State are strong in subject and they are hardworking. "The students here are diligent and they need financial aid. This is where I advise them to perform well in degree course. This will make them eligible for scholarships abroad," he adds.

Mr. Albieri is currently on a visit to the city to meet students and take a look at their strengths and chances to get admission in the Pacific University back in the US.

Venkat, who represents Career Overseas authorised representatives for foreign universities, says that the city has a lot of strengths as far as educational spectrum is concerned.

"We are authorised representatives of many universities.

We do not charge any fee from students. Since the city has a lot of educational institutions, we plan to provide information on opportunities to local students," he says.

    Strong base

Engineering doesn't seem to enjoy its total autonomy any more with regard to both job and higher education opportunities. Universities offer post-graduate courses to students with ordinary degrees like B.Sc, B.Com and B.A.

The city is strong on both fronts - professional as well as regular degree colleges. Having nearly 15 engineering colleges in its vicinity, the city has well-established autonomous and regular institutions like Andhra Loyola College, P.B. Siddhartha College of Arts and Science and SRR & CVR Government College.

    Biggest asset

Universities' representatives, who try to attract attention of local students to their respective programmes, say that the presence of strong educational institutions and good faculty are the biggest assets of the city. It is no wonder even in a remote university in the United States one will find a city student pursuing some programme or the other.

The universities have noticed the fact that many city students are forced to visit Hyderabad in search of help to get admissions overseas. This is what makes them send their representatives directly to the city to provide ready information on the courses available there and also requirements for the admissions process.
