Holi celebrations take on more vigour and vibrancy

VISAKHAPATNAM: Clouds of colour rose like smoke and the vibrancy of Holi shimmered over the restive crowd. They soaked themselves in the spirit of Holi with myriad colours. As the colours kept raining down from overhead, as soft as talcum powder, music flowed in to ignite the jubilant spirits of the revellers who came down to Hotel Palm Beach to celebrate the festival of colours in their own style on Sunday. Streaked, daubed, rainbow-hued with the coloured powders of Holi, the faces were beyond recognition.

Festive atmosphere

A fine mix of some hip-swinging Bollywood Holi numbers and some Western numbers as well, the exuberant crowd grooved in style with the peppy numbers. Neither age nor sex was a bar. They danced and celebrated the day. The beats of music were drowned in the cacophonic chorus of voices. True to the Holi spirit, special delicacies were dished out to add flavour to the festive atmosphere.

Large participation

With each passing year, the Holi celebrations in the city take on more vigour and vibrancy as more and more people take part in the festivities not only in small groups but also in larger social groups. The celebrations started on Saturday morning even before the `holika' was lit and extended till late Sunday evening. Beach road was the most preferred spot of revellers and those passing by also got a generous sprinkling.
