Rajahmundry: The top leadership of ruling Congress has started concentrating on the aspirants of mayor candidates. The TDP has already announced its candidate for the post of Mayor (reserved for B.C. woman). Adireddy Veera Raghavamma, contesting from 11th division and wife of TDP town president Adireddy Apparao is the only contender and approved by the TDP district unit and chief N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The first corporation was won by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and M. S. Chakravarti was its first Mayor. Now the TDP is fighting to wrest the same, but the Congress is putting all its effort to continue its winning spree as it was done in Assembly, municipal, Panchayat and ZP elections. However, the Congress has many mind-boggling sessions to finalise its mayor candidate.
There are four main contenders from the party and the candidate on whom there is maximum consensus, as per Congress circles, is M. Padmalatha from 40th division.
She is a respiratory physician in a private hospital. She conducted many health camps "I was inspired by MP Vundavalli Aruna Kumar, as he wanted educated to come into politics.
Developing green belt to face global warming and underground drainage system are my priorities," said Dr. Padmalatha.
After three decades of political life, Jakkampudi Ramamohanarao (Minister) and Vundavalli Aruna Kumar (MP) had a difference of opinion on selection of Mayor candidate. Minister's close circles say that he is having two options in his mind -- first is Dr. Padmalatha of 40th ward and second is Guduri Radhika. However, the Minister is also getting pressure to consider 35th ward candidate Prasadula Padmavati, whose husband Harnath is former corporator. MP Vundavelli Aruna Kumar has made a promise to Kudupudi Vijayalakshmi, whose husband Chandrasekhar Reddy is senior Congress leader and close friend of Aruna Kumar. Vijayalakshmi is known as social worker and Director of Marine Engineering College at Vishakhapatnam, member in many social organizations.
