90 computers to be used for quick delivery of cards

HYDERABAD: It may have been out of power for two-and-a-half years now but Telugu Desam Party has not lost its penchant for using hi-tech gadgets.

The party is now planning to deliver cards to the 25 lakh active members it plans to enrol within a day of paying the fee from January 28. This it wants to accomplish by setting up 90 computers and 150 personnel in 23 district headquarters.

TDP leader E. Peddi Reddy told press persons that the moment workers got their subscription books the membership details would be fed into these computers. They will be send to the party headquarters here online where the cards will be printed and dispatched to the districts.

He said this was the first time that the party had commissioned computers on a large scale for the membership drive. With computerisation, the party hoped to raise the active membership from 15 lakh in the past to 25 lakhs this year. In addition it expected to enrol another 30 lakh ordinary members.

Asked to comment the senior party leader T. Devender Goud's lament that the party was dominated by self- seekers, he said it was nothing more than his personal observation.

At another press conference, two other leaders R. Chandrasekhara Reddy and P. Chandrasekhar wondered why there was no word from the Government on the slide of its rank from first last year to 10th now in the CNN-IBN opinion poll. "When it stood first even the Cabinet meeting celebrated it. But now it is silent."
