These lands were allotted to the poor when there was no development in towns and cities. But now, they have turned out to be prime lands following urban growth

HYDERABAD: Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao has said the land assigned to landless poor in the urban areas for agriculture purpose before 1977 may not be handed over to the original assignees after recovery, but will be used for public purposes like hospitals and schools.

These lands were allotted to the poor when there was no development in towns and cities. But now, they have turned out to be prime lands following urban growth. "They can't be given back for cultivation as they are located in the middle of the municipal limits of the cities like Hyderabad".

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, the Minister specified four conditions to regularise assigned land found alienated by the original allottee.

Referring to the recovery of lands in and around Hyderabad, Mr Rao said, notices were served to 43 individuals and parties.
