Doctor’s son pulls off mask of one of the robbers while grappling with him

Sniffer dogs lead police to Rajeev Gruhakalpa complex under construction

HYDERABAD: Three masked robbers raided a doctor’s house in the early hours of Friday and attacked him and his son with sickles before making off with a gold chain weighing 20 grams at Bandlaguda in L.B. Nagar.

While the homoeopathic doctor, Subrahmanyam, 52, sustained bleeding wounds, his 22-year-old son, Agastya Shyam, suffered even more critical injuries on the abdomen and chest in the attack. Both were rushed to Kamineni hospital where they were operated upon. They are recuperating now.

The intruders kicked open the bolted front door and entered the house around 3.30 a.m. They were ransacking the house when the doctor woke up on hearing the noise. The trio pounced on him and his wife Laxmi. Their son sleeping in the next room rushed to their rescue on hearing the shouts.

“The robbers carrying sickles attacked me and then my son who suffered deep cut wounds while trying to resist them,” the doctor told the police. Not finding cash or jewellery in the house, the robbers snatched Ms. Laxmi’s gold chain and fled as she raised an alarm.

The doctor’s son pulled off the mask worn by one of the robbers while fighting them. The sniffer dogs, after scenting the mask, led the police to the nearby Rajeev Gruhakalpa complex under construction. The Saroornagar ACP, M.S. Venugopala Rao, felt the offenders did not belong to any dacoit gangs like Parthi or Kanjarbhat. Police suspect some labourers working at the complex could be involved in the robbery.
