58 post offices identified for rail reservation services
VISAKHAPATNAM: Want to pay telephone or electricity bill ? Want application forms for various competitive examinations like UPSC, EAMCET, IGNOU ? Need SIM cards, recharge coupons, gold coins, Rakhee covers ? Require non-judicial stamps, passport ? Want railway reservation tickets? The public would have a new address to get any of the above facilities: the post office.
The Department of Posts also plans to introduce Core Banking System in important cities.
This would ensure quick world class service at reduced costs and lesser time. Disclosing the details on the occasion of the National Postal Week which began on Friday, Yennam Upender, Director, Visakhapatnam Region, said that under ‘Project Arrow’, 12 offices in the region had been modified for providing modern technological services.
As many as 59 B-Class post offices in the region had been identified for computerisations and works were at various stages of completion.
Core Banking System is proposed to be introduced in 400 post offices in the country and in Visakhapatnam Region nine post offices viz., Amalapuram, Visakhaptnam, Srikakulam, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Anakapalli, Pravathipuram, Vizianagaram and Waltair Head Post Office are proposed to be brought under the scheme, he said.
Mr. Upender said that 58 post offices in the Visakahpatnam Region had been identified for railway reservation ticket services.
The approval of Railway Board was awaited for this. More than 18.27 lakh accounts had been opened for distribution of wages to workers employed under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. October 9 is being celebrated as World Postal Day.
