SCR invites consultants to prepare a master plan for taking up the project
Hyderabad: The plan to develop Secunderabad railway station into a world-class facility gained momentum with the South Central Railway (SCR) inviting consultants to prepare a master plan for taking up the project.
Global tenders inviting the consultants were issued on September 26 and the authorities would open them on October 30 to select the successful bidder who would be given a time frame of ten months to sketch the master plan, said an SCR spokesperson.
The Railway Board’s plans were to go in for vertical development of the station with platforms on different floors. Also included were malls, restaurants and other passenger facilities like booking offices, waiting halls on different floors with each floor connected by escalators.
The consultant is expected to prepare a comprehensive plan, including the estimated project cost, technical feasibility, real estate scenario, future expansions and other infrastructure recommendations.
The SCR authorities would inform about the railways’ requirements like trains handlings, passenger traffic and their amenities, the spokesperson explained.
Based on the consultant’s recommendations, project developers would be invited for construction of a world-class station.
This apart, the consultant would be monitoring the project development.
Apart from Secunderabad railway station, the Railway Board had plans to develop Tirupati railway station into a world-class station in the State.
However, these plans were yet to be set in motion as authorities were still working on identifying lands at Tirupati and its surrounding areas for the project, she added.
