Aashayein Foundation’s social service at Auxilium Navjeevana

HYDERABAD: Sunday turned out to be a different holiday in the usually sombre environs of Auxilium Navjeevana, a home for street children and young girls at Bholakpur. There was a festive ambience with the children sporting cheerful smiles.

Not only did the children -- mostly orphan girls -- have a sumptuous breakfast but they also got a rare opportunity to interact with IT professionals. Under the banner of Aashayein Foundation here, 50-odd software and other corporate employees from different firms, came together to take up social service, including teaching children in slums on weekends. The foundation was established in 2007 in Bangalore as its headquarters and the Hyderabad chapter commenced operations in February this year. Since then, the foundation has conducted over 50 different programmes, including painting competitions, free breakfasts and interactive sessions for underprivileged children.

At the Auxilium Navjeevana on Sunday, the foundation members served idlis and dosas for breakfast to 55 kids free of cost.

“Every Sunday, we organise free breakfast and interactive programmes at different orphanages and transit homes in the city. We pool in the money to fund the activities,” said Aashayein Foundation Hyderabad Chapter Head, Suyash Chopra.

“It was fun all the way. We had great food and also played and danced to our heart’s content,” said Kavitha, a fourth standard student.

Satisfaction

“It is not about money but more about the quality time we spent with the kids. It gives us a sense of satisfaction,” said Phanindar Reddy, an employee of Soltius.

Sister Margaret, in-charge of Auxilium Navjeevana, was pleased with the day’s happenings. “Our children thoroughly enjoyed their time with the IT employees. It is not often they get to meet them and hopefully, the interaction would make them grow into better persons,” she added.
