VISAKHAPATNAM: Commencing the Navy Week-2009 celebrations at Visakhapatnam on the Children’s Day, INS Jalashwa, a Landing Platform Dock, aptly hosted special children from various schools of the city on Saturday. Mrs Meenu Prabhakar, wife of Rear Admiral Dinesh Prabhakar who is Project Director Ship Building Centre (Visakhapatnam) and Mrs. Medha Murugesan, wife of Rear Admiral P Murugesan who is Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, were present. They interacted with over 143 Special children including wheel chair-bound children and 40 faculty members from Sankalp, Arunodaya Special School, Lebenshilfe, Omkar and Lions School for Deaf, Sunflower Special School, Bethany School and Pavani Institute. The children were given a guided tour of the ship and a feel of the nautical way of life including a live demonstration of flight deck movements, display of Gemini craft and the operation of Ramp. Photographs were also displayed on photo boards apprising them of the Fleet activities undertaken all year round. Thereafter, the children exhibited their cultural talents through a short variety entertainment programme.

The magic show and the singing competitions organised by the ship followed by a sumptuous meal onboard had the children thoroughly enjoying themselves. Ms. Meenu Prabhakar gave away prizes to the children who participated actively in the competitions.

All children were given T shirts, caps and gifts by the Eastern Fleet, making their visit even more memorable.
