Hanumantha Rao, Harish Rao taken into custody, later released

SIDDIPET (MEDAK DISTRICT): Police foiled a possible clash between supporters of the Telugu Desam and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Saturday by clamping prohibitory orders and using mild force to disperse them.

Supporters mobilised

TDP legislator from Medak M. Hanumantha Rao and TRS legislator from Siddipet T. Harish Rao mobilised their forces for a face-to-face at Raghavapur in Siddipet mandal. Sensing trouble, police deployed huge force and set up check posts at various points. They clamped Section 144 at Raghavapur where Mr. Harish Rao’s relatives were alleged to have illegally occupied land and prevented anyone from entering the village. Superintendent of Police M. Kanta Rao personally monitored the situation at Siddipet. At one point, police caned TRS workers while they were trying to thwart the arrest of Mr. Harish Rao. One Ch. Rami Reddy was seriously injured when he fell from the vehicle in which Mr. Harish Rao was shifted to the police station. Padma Devender Reddy, S. Ramalinga Reddy and R Satyanarayana and other TRS leaders were also taken into custody.

Dharnas staged

On the other hand, Mr. Hanumantha Rao was also arrested and shifted to Bhoompalli police station along with his supporters. Later they were released on personal guarantee. Supporters of both leaders held dharnas at different places in the district demanding their release. Later speaking to reporters at Gajwel, Mr. Harish Rao released documents to refute allegations against him. The TRS was ready to extend support if the issue of occupation issue of Dalits’ land was taken up by the TDP.

On his part, Mr. Hanumantha Rao said that he was ready to prove the allegations and asked whether Mr. S. Ramalinga Reddy had not occupied land at Siddipet beyond what he was actually allotted.
