After two attempts on his life, Congress strongman back in action

TIRUPATI: The Congress strongman and former MLA of Chittoor C.K. Babu who survived attempts on his life twice, has on Wednesday come out of his shell ending his two years political exile. After two deadly attacks on his life which he narrowly escaped by the skin of his teeth, Babu was lying low and remained mostly confined to his residence on the advice of the police.

But with the election fever fast catching up and his confinement to his hibernation beginning to send wrong signals to the Congress high command and to his followers as well, Mr. Babu decided to emerge once again. He led an impressive rally on Wednesday from the Chittoor town to Gudipala ostensibly to open the party office.

With a large number of his followers in tow and some leading the procession on their motorcycles, the former MLA reached Tavanampalle and addressed a public meeting where, without mincing words, he declared that his contesting for the Chittoor Assembly seat in the upcoming elections is imminent and certain. “I am a born Congressman and I enjoy the full support of my constituency,” said Mr. Babu, a close follower of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The Congress owed its present regime to the historic ‘pada yatra’ of Dr. Reddy, he said.
