HYDERABAD: British jockey Dominic Richard Fox’s mysterious disappearance from his room in Hyderabad created ripples here on Tuesday.

Police and his employers, who launched massive searches for him, however, heaved a sigh of relief on learning that 28-year-old Fox sent an SMS stating that he had to leave for London to see his mother who suddenly fell sick.

“We’re verifying with immigration officials if he checked into the airport. As of now, we don’t see any foul play behind his disappearance,” Punjagutta police station Inspector Malla Reddy told reporters.

A UK national, Mr. Fox came to Hyderabad on November 3 on an assignment with Hyderabad Race Club, the police said.

He was being paid a monthly salary of nearly 7,000 UK pounds.

The jockey was living in the house of club trainer Shahzad Abbas in Somajiguda.

According to the complaint lodged by Abbas, the jockey was last seen in his room around 10.30 p.m. on Monday. But he was missing from 5.30 a.m. the next day, Mr Abbas told the police.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case of man missing.

Even as police began investigation into the jockey’s disappearance, Farhat, an employee of Abbas, received an SMS on his mobile phone from Fox stating that he was leaving for London urgently for personal reasons.
