HYDERABAD: Giving a new twist to the controversy over not extending invitation to the CWC member G. Venkataswamy and the APCC president D. Srinivas for the foundation stone laying ceremony of Pranahita Chevella irrigation scheme, a section of Congress leaders have termed it as an ‘deliberate insult to the people of Telangana’.

The issue came up for discussion at the residence of Mr. Venkataswamy on Sunday, when senior leaders from the region met him to discuss the AICC general secretary M. Veerappa Moily’s observation on the statehood issue. . Former APCC president K. Keshava Rao, Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao, MLCs, K. R. Amos, B. Kamalakar Rao and K. Yadava Reddy and former SAAP chief Sridhar Reddy attended the meeting. They reasoned that it was unbecoming of the government to ignore a leader like Mr. Venkataswamy. Sources said that the issue also cropped up at the wedding of Union Minister Renuka Chowdary’s daughter when former APCC president K. Keshava Rao asked Rajya Sabha member K.V.P. Ramachander Rao why invitation was not sent to the senior leaders. Dr. Ramachandra Rao is said to have observed that it was an official function, which prompted Dr. Keshava Rao to ask as to how the APCC chief attended the convention of SHGs in Tirupati in September.
