Kakinada: TDP Politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu demanded a white paper to be submitted by the Government on the State’s financial position and accused it of mismanaging things which led to a steep fall in revenues and lack of progress in development and welfare schemes. The Government’s fiscal profligacy has ruined the economy but it continued to make tall claims to refurbish its image which took a severe beating due to a string of failures.
Addressing media persons here on Sunday, Mr. Ramakrishnudu said no fresh allocations were made for development and welfare schemes and agriculture sector was the worst hit by the government’s intransigence. For instance, farm sector’s share in the State’s GDP came down to 3 to 4 per cent from 23 per cent in 2003-04 when the TDP was in power. This showed how badly the agriculture sector was neglected to detriment of a huge number of farmers dependent on it for livelihood.
No other sector was in a good shape as the government merely harped on the financial allocations made by it in the early years of its tenure.
Mr. Ramakrishnudu described the cancellation of G.O. No. 34 as an eyewash and said that the government could prove its commitment to the welfare of farmers and other coastal communities, by withdrawing the G.O. No 373 that governs land acquisition and other issues central to the ‘corridor’ project.
