HYDERABAD: The Ring Main II works for diversion of 45 mgd of Krishna water towards Secunderbad-Marredpally-Mahindra Hills is complete. The tunnelling work which commenced on September 4 was completed on Thursday in a record time of two months.

The micro tunnelling with trench less technology was taken up for a total length of 145 rmt at ROB railway crossing, Rail Nilayam. Drilling was done to a depth of 42.25 feet below the tracks to facilitate pushing of water supply pipeline.

The left over gap closings on the pipeline are underway and expected to be completed by November 12 when the Ring Main II will be fully commissioned. When commissioned, the Ring Main II will transmit 45 mgd of Krishna water to areas of Uppal, Kapra, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad Cantonment, Marredpally, Lalaguda and Mettuguda. This will help switching over to daily water supply in the identified localities of Secunderabad up to Mahendra Hills.

It further stated that there would be a saving of about 20 mgd of water from Manjira and Singur system in the above areas and this would be supplemented to areas like Banjara Hills, Serlingampally, Kukatpally, Quthbullapur.
