Nine-acre site at Dhobi Ghat near Sikh Village to develop into a multi-purpose sports complex
HYDERABAD: Sports in the Cantonment Area of Secunderabad is all set to get a major fillip with the move to develop the nine-acre site at Dhobi Ghat near Sikh Village into a multi-purpose sports complex. The initiative by SCB CEO V. Premchand might well just usher in a new chapter in the area, especially for all the middle and lower strata of the society.
His plans are pretty simple-avoid any sort of civil works including setting up stands or pavilions and create play facility for football, hockey, tennis, volleyball, basketball and cricket. “We don’t want to waste any space. The whole objective is to create facilities for more disciplines,” insists Mr. Premchand.
And there is a huge opportunity for all those corporate groups, craving to promote sports , to support this venture in a small way as the SCB policy is quite tempting. For instance, no earnest deposit or any money need to be paid which in fact says that the SCB itself will take care of basic maintenance.
If someone wants to lay synthetic tennis courts, the place will be named after the donor and similarly for other disciplines. “We are not averse to the idea of any one single sponsor coming up for the entire project which actually means levelling the playfields with no construction work at all,” he explains.
The concept of roping in all the former internationals as coaches is also on cards to serve the very purpose of training young talent in the best possible manner. To ensure that everything goes as per the plan, a panel comprising members of SCB, ex-internationals and the probable donors will be formed to monitor the day-to-day functioning to ensure complete transparency.
With Chief Minister Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy slatedto lay the foundation for this later this month, there is something to cheer about finally for all those sports-lovers.
