25 more cell towers to be commissioned in Srikakulam

70 more towers to be sanctioned soon, says incharge GM

Scheme for students reintroduced

Srikakulam: Bharatiya Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Srikakulam has been taking several measures to improve quality of services to both CellOne and landline customers by setting up more cell towers and expanding the reach of the CellOne services, said K. Neelaiah, in-charge general manager.

Addressing a press conference at his chambers here on Tuesday, Mr. Neelaiah said 68 CellOne towers were already functioning and 25 more would be commissioned by the end of December bringing the total number of cell towers to 88 in the district. Besides 70 more towers would be sanctioned shortly and equipment for it would arrive in January 2009.

After the installations of the towers the quality of services would be increased including problems of congestion, weak signals and lack of clarity.

In all 150 cell towers would be functioning by the end of the current financial year.

The mobile power pack which is a new mobile pre-paid plan which was in vogue for a period of three months from August 8 had ended with a massive response of 18,000 connections under the plan .

The same plan had been extended from October 25 by one month.

Under the plan the customers can use 500 free SMS services and talk to five chosen numbers at 30 paise per minute pulse rate .

Mr. Neelaiah re-introduced another popular scheme ‘Student power’ for the student community. Under the scheme the students can send unlimited SMS to their friends and talk to friends and classmates at 30 paise per 60 seconds pulse rate from 11 pm to 7 am.

The cost of the SIM card is Rs.202 inclusive of service tax with a talk value of Rs.60 with seven days validity and grace period of 30 days.

New plan

The in-charge GM said another post-paid plan 995- platinum had been introduced from October 28 with unlimited local calls within BSNL network within the State.
