Bid to forge an alternative to Congress in the next elections

KCR to discuss current political situation with the AIADMK chief in Chennai on Monday

Says TRS determined to work for defeat of Congress both at Centre and State

HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao said here on Saturday that he would meet All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary Jayalalithaa as part of efforts to forge an alternative to the Congress in the next elections.

Mr. Rao told reporters that he would go to Chennai on Monday to meet the AIADMK supremo to discuss the current political situation and the future course of action.

The TRS president said given the number of constituencies in the two States, the results in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu would be crucial in the formation of the Government after the next elections. “The TRS is determined to work for the defeat of the Congress at the State and national levels as it has become a major hurdle in the formation of Telangana,” he added.

Mr. Rao said the TRS and the two Left parties — the CPI(M) and the CPI — had agreed in principle to work together and efforts were underway to forge tie-ups with other parties. He, however, did not give a direct reply on whether the three parties would sail with the Telugu Desam Party or align with the Praja Rajyam Party of Chiranjeevi. “There is still lot of time to decide about it,” he said.
