KADAPA: Minister for Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Saturday released 100 cusecs from Telugu Ganga left canal near Kalasapadu through an aqueduct to Porumamilla tank, to cater to 3,500 acres of ayacut.
The Congress Government spent Rs. 1,100 crore on Telugu Ganga Project (TGP) during the last four years, while the previous Governments spent Rs. 1,800 crore since 1983, the Minister said.
Stating that only 800 cusecs were being released from Velugonda project to Telugu Ganga as against 5,000 cusecs, he assured that the Government would strive to ensure release of full extent to enable Brahmamsagar reservoir to get filled in a month.
Mr. Lakshmaiah promised disbursal of compensation to persons displaced by Porumamilla tank after a survey. He directed construction of foot-over bridges on the left and right canals of TGP to enable movement of people and cattle. Describing Jalayagnam as a boon to farmers, he said Krishna water was brought to Porumamilla when rainfall was scanty.
Irrigation projects are being built on a war footing, Kadapa Member of Parliament Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy said. . Badvel legislator D.C. Govinda Reddy said Rs. 450 crore was spent on Brahmamsagar reservoir.
