CPI(M) activists led by party MP stage dharna in front of Haj House
Hyderabad: Activists of the Communist Party of India (M) led by party MP P. Madhu, staged a dharna in front of the Haj House on Monday in protest against the encroachment of Toli Masjid land at Karwan.
Some Congress leaders in association with the Majlis had grabbed part of the 27 acre land belonging to the 400-year-old mosque, they alleged.
Holding placards, the CPI(M) workers raised slogans against the Wakf Board and the State government and demanded immediate arrest of the land grabbers.
Now illegal construction was being taken up in 2000 square yards by some local Congress leaders and the authorities were looking the other way, said Mr. Madhu.
He accused the Minorities Welfare Department of being hand-in-glove with the land grabbers and not taking action despite repeated reminders.
The Wakf Board had no full time head and it was functioning with 40 per cent staff and as such not in a position to safeguard its valuable properties. He wondered if the government would have remained silent if its land was encroached.
The CPI(M) would take out a rally to the Toli mosque if the government failed to arrest the land grabbers, Mr. Madhu warned.
