HYDERABAD: Freedom fighter Mallu Swarajyam urged the government to provide basic amenities like toilets, drinking water and other facilities in government schools. Many girl students are not attending schools due to lack of these, she alleged.
Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, she said an NGO, MV Foundation, has taken up a survey in 315 schools located in 17 mandals in Ranga Reddy district, and found that 295 schools were not having toilets while 207 schools are running without drinking water facility.
In Nalgonda district, out of 448 schools surveyed, 398 schools were not provided with toilets, she said.
The government, which talks so much about girl-child education has failed to provide basic facilities and necessary infrastructure like classrooms in schools . The students and teaching staff are facing untold hardships in villages, she said.
Parents of the girls, who were also present, expressed concern over the negligent attitude of the government with regard to schools.
They threatened to stop sending their daughters to schools, if the government fails to respond to the problem.
